Abdulkarim Chukkol, the interim executive chairman of the Economic and Financial Offences Commission (EFCC), has voiced alarm over the rise in young internet-related offenses in Kaduna State.
He pointed out that state reports showed a large engagement of youth in illegal operations.
This was said by Chukkol on Wednesday at a one-day session in Kaduna on effective reporting of EFCC matters.
The acting head of the EFCC encouraged the media to provide additional information about the threat. She was represented by Acting Zonal Commander Aisha Abubakar.
He asked the media to enlighten the people with crucial facts to protect them from falling for the deceptions of online scammers.
Chukkol emphasized the significance of educating children about the dangers of committing crimes on the internet.
“The effects of economic and financial crimes on people, institutions, and countries cannot be overstated,” he said. It is really disturbing that there are more and more internet-related crimes occurring in the Kaduna area. Youths actively participate in these evil actions, according to reports from this region of the nation.
He further emphasized that such crimes had detrimental effects that went beyond monetary losses.
Additionally, they damage the nation’s prestige and deter honest work and lawful endeavors, the speaker continued.
Chukkol remarked that financial troubles and unemployment should never be used as justifications for committing crimes.

He pointed out that for people with the necessary talents, the Internet offers many prospects for legitimate income.
The head of the EFCC reaffirmed the organization’s steadfast dedication to eliminating all types of economic and financial crimes.
This commitment includes stepping up enforcement operations in Kaduna, he added, which would result in the capture and punishment of countless cybercriminals and financial crime offenders.
Wilson Uwajaren, the EFCC spokesperson, stated in his speech that the agency obtained over 3,700 convictions in 2022 across the country and credited the accomplishment to the committed efforts of the commission’s solicitors.
Uwajaren also asked the media for assistance and cooperation in the nation’s ongoing battle against financial crime.
