LASU Students Suffer Injuries During GNS Studies

Seven undergraduates of the Lagos State University (LASU) suffered various degrees of injuries during a stampede at the institution’s CBT centre on Monday.

The stampede occurred as 100-Levels students prepared to sit for the General MMNigerian Studies (GNS) scheduled for Monday and Tuesday

Although about seven students were injured, the university management said all of the victims except one, has since been discharged.

The Nation reports that all the 100-Level students were meant to sit for GNS 102 which the university had scheduled to hold in batches.

The exam which was sited at the institution CBT Hall was meant for one hour each and to be written in six batches daily.

The university’s spokesperson Ademola Adekoya told our reporter that some impatient students who had insisted to be among the earlier set began the commotion after forcing their way into the 500-capacity ICT Centre and resulting in the pandemonium that followed.

“That resulted in the stampede that caused some of them to faint while few others sustained minor injuries,” Adekoya later stated in a press statement made available to The Nation.

“The affected students were promptly rushed to the university’s Health Centre and the Igando General Hospital for proper treatment. Only one of the injured is still being treated at the General Hospital.” Adekoya added.

While expressing regrets over the development, Adekoya said management has now decided to postpone the examination to Wednesday and Thursday at the CBT Centres as well as the Language Laboratory.

Meanwhile, SMS and calls put across to the Student’s Union president Olawale Oluwatayo were neither picked nor responded to.
