New National Alarm System To Be Tested In Germany

Authorities said on Friday that a statewide alarm system in Germany will be tested on September 14.

German citizens will be alerted at 11 a.m. (0900 GMT) via multiple means, according to the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) and the German Interior Ministry.

According to ministry representative Julianne Seifert, “We are relying on using a mix of warning methods.”

The warning messages would be broadcast on radio, television, and mobile devices via Nina-like warning apps.

The announcements were aired on train platforms and on public transit platforms by sirens and information boards in cities.

It will be raucous, BBK President Ralph Tiesler predicted.

Nine out of ten Germans were given a warning on the most recent test in December by one method or another.

After the fatal flash floods that struck the country’s west in the summer of 2021, efforts to improve communication with individuals in emergency situation were stepped up in Germany.
